Iain Mackness
Radio and Audio Producer/Director

With over twenty years of experience in producing, mixing and directing various radio and audio programmes - including in a Head of Production capacity for Made in Manchester and as Artistic Director (and founder member) of Dark Smile Productions - I am now seeking new directing/producing opportunities on this exciting journey. I see working with sound as a great privilege, opening up new opportunities for engagement with a diversity of voices and perspectives - drama being a form I am particularly experienced in as a Theatre & Media Drama Graduate.
I enjoy the challenge of tailoring and editing work to suit a range of audiences, including children – having produced and directed all 16 episodes of the radio series 'Suzie Pugh and a Monster Too!' with Vicky Binns. Radio documentaries and features that I have mixed/produced have appeared on a range of platforms including BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 4Extra, Downtown Radio, Jazz FM, BBC World Service, BBC Radio 5 Live, and the DW network in Germany. I have also worked on numerous podcasts.
I have produced and mixed numerous original dramas for The Independent online including the award-winning 'Rock' (Best Online Audio Production at the BBC Audio Drama Awards 2012). I am proud of being Producer/Director of the first ever BBC Radio 5Live drama production 'Don't Cry for me Maradona' with Tim Healey and Denise Welch. Most recently I was the Director and Sound Designer for 'The Manxman' on BBC Radio 4
